Calling All Rural (and semi-rural) School Districts:
Looking for a math intervention focused on fractions?

About the Fraction Face-Off SCALE Project

Dr. Michael Solis who is a faculty member at the University of California, Riverside is currently recruiting rural and semi-rural districts to participate during the 2026–2027 school year. Fraction Face-Off (FFO) study is an evidence-based mathematics intervention developed by Dr. Lynn Fuchs (Vanderbilt University) and approved by the What Works Clearinghouse. Fraction Face-Off provides small-group math intervention for students in grades 4 and 5 who experience math difficulty. Lessons are implemented during the regular school day and focus on building conceptual understanding and fluency with fractions through:

• Hands-on instruction with manipulatives

• Cumulative practice and fluency-building activities

• Individualized feedback and short, engaging “contest” and “relay” components

Benefits for Participating Teachers and Schools

• All training and materials are provided at no cost

• Professional learning support and optional individualized coaching

• Stipend provided for participating teachers and interventionists

• Opportunity to participate in a graduate-level asynchronous course on teaching fractions

• Contribution to national research on improving math outcomes for students with difficulty

Additional details about the intervention and participation process are linked below in a YouTube video!
